Called the lazy cousin of an omelette, a frittata is the Italian ‘brunch’ dish made with eggs and looks very similar to it. Not just that, a frittata also resembles a quiche too. While omelette is mostly enjoyed for breakfast, a frittata can also be enjoyed for dinner as well and serves 2-3 people as it's loaded with various veggies. If compared between the two, a frittata is said to be healthier than an omelette as fibrous veggies are added to it, which can also help in the weight loss process. (Images: istock)

Traditionally, frittatas are cooked in a cast-iron pan or oven-safe skillet. First, the frittata is cooked in the pan and then in the oven. To make a frittata, 4-5 eggs are beaten well in a mixing bowl and transferred to a hot pan along with the veggies. When the outer edges are set, the frittata is transferred to an oven-safe skillet for finishing. Here are some of the frittata recipes that you can easily make at home, which can even help in the weight loss process.

For making this frittata, you’ll need button mushrooms, broccoli, bell peppers, squash, onion and bacon along with 6 whole eggs and 4 egg whites and cheddar cheese. First, bake the bacon for 15 minutes in the oven until crisp and brown. Next, saute all the veggies for 3-4 minutes or until tender. Quickly, beat all the eggs together with some salt & pepper and fresh herbs, if you like; and pour this mixture over the sauteed vegetables. Cook this egg mixture over medium flame and when it is set, use a spatula to lift the edges of the frittata. Make sure it is cooked well until you are ready to lift off and before that, add shredded cheese over it. Now, you can shift this frittata in the oven bake for 5 minutes at 200 degrees and broil for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted. Enjoy it hot!

For making this healthy frittata, you would need 2 cups of egg whites, baby spinach, white onion, Roma tomatoes and salt & pepper. Preheat the air fryer to 320 degrees F and spray the baking dish with cooking spray. Now, take a mixing bowl and beat the egg whites with a little salt & pepper. Add baby spinach and chopped Roma tomatoes to it along with onions and beat once again. Now, pour this mixture into the prepared baking dish and cook for 7-8 minutes or until set. Serve warm.

This frittata is a treat for the eyes as well as the soul. To make it, saute red bell peppers with some chopped garlic for a minute. Next, add in the arugula and cook for 2 minutes. Next, add some chicken slices. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes. Then, beat about 8 eggs with salt & pepper and pour over this mixture. Shred some goat cheese over this mixture and let the dish cook for about 5 minutes. Afterwards, transfer the frittata to an oven-safe dish and bake for another 5 minutes. Enjoy it hot.

Firstly, take a mixing bowl and beat together 8 eggs in it with some fresh thyme, oregano, rosemary, salt & pepper. Next, add some milk to it with chives and beat once again. Heat a large cast-iron skillet on medium flame with a little olive oil in it. When hot enough, add this egg mixture to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes. Next, add onion above the mixture along with shredded mozzarella cheese. Let the mixture cook for 5-6 minutes. Using a spatula, remove the edges and afterwards transfer the frittata to an oven-safe dish and bake for 2-3 minutes. You are good to go!

To make this frittata, heat the oven to 225 degrees C and take a large baking dish and grease it with cooking spray. Meanwhile, put a cast-iron skillet on medium flame and heat a little olive oil in it. When the oil is hot enough, add finely sliced shallot and cook for 2-3 minutes. Next, add baby spinach and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Now, take a large mixing bowl and beat together 8 eggs with some salt & pepper. Add the sundried tomatoes in the egg mixture along with basil, grated cheddar cheese and spinach mixture. Transfer this mixture to the greased baking dish and cook for 12-15 minutes or until firm.
