SOUTHWEST IOWA — As temperatures go down and colors change, people might want to get out and enjoy their area parks before the snow flies.

There are area events happening in parks all over southwest Iowa, from volunteering to movies in the park. Here’s a list of some of those activities:

Cocklin Fish Farm, 67242 550th St, Griswold, at noon, officials will be honoring Shawn Askeland, faithful caretaker of Cocklin Fish Farm by dedicating a bench in his memory. All are welcome to attend.

Lake Anita State Park — Mysterious Monarch program, 4-5 p.m., Learn about Monarch Butterflies, from Naturalist Anne Riordan, including on how to tag them! Meet in the campground near the popcorn shed.

Lake Anita State Park — movie in the campground, “The Mitchells Vs The Machines.” Movies begin at dusk and are held in the campground.

Lake Anita State Park — Dutch Oven Basics, meet in the non-electric campground. For those new to dutch oven cooking, come, learn and taste, bring a plate and fork organizers said. If you are a dutch oven fan, bring your dutch oven and ingredients to show off.

T-Bone Trail, starting at Audubon trail head, T-Bone Trail Ride, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. register by calling or emailing Audubon County Tourism office 712-563-2742 or actorg@windstream.net. There will be food and drink stops along the ride. $20 per rider, proceeds go to trail improvements. Deadline to get a t-shirt is Sept. 1 but will be able to register riders the day of the ride.

Prairie Rose State Park — Hike Night last for the season — meet at 7 p.m. at the beach parking lot, hikes are relatively easy.

Cold Springs Park Campground — 7th annual Biennial Lighted Halloween Campground from 7-9 p.m. at the campground in Lewis. Call to volunteer, sign up, or just for more information.
